A macaúba é uma palmeira tropical com grande potencial para produção de biocombustíveis. Entretanto a dormência nas sementes limita o aproveitamento agroindustrial da espécie. O presente estudo avaliou o efeito da aplicação de fitorreguladores na superação da dormência em sementes de macaúba. Avaliou-se o efeito de soluções de ácido giberélico (GA3) (0, 2000 e 5000 mg L-1), em dois tempos de imersão das sementes (24 e 48 horas), associadas à manutenção ou retirada do tegumento opercular, bem como o efeito da associação entre GA3 (2000 mg L-1), ácido indol-3-butírico (AIB) e benzilaminopurina (BAP) e o efeito da quantidade de aplicações (uma, duas ou cinco) das combinações dos fitorreguladores. Em ambos os experimentos, as sementes foram plantadas em vermiculita e a germinação foi conduzida em câmara úmida com 95 ± 5 % de UR, a 30°C, durante 18 semanas. Observou-se efeito positivo da aplicação de GA3 e da retirada do tegumento opercular, não havendo diferenças significativas entre os tempos de imersão. A imersão em AIB e BAP, não influenciou a germinação. A aplicação de GA3 por cinco vezes separadas proporcionou os maiores percentuais de germinação, atingindo 41% ao final do experimento.

The macaw palm is a tropical palm with significant potential for biofuel production; however, seed dormancy is a major factor limiting its agro-industrial use. The present study evaluated the effects of phytoregulators in overcoming macaw palm seed dormancy. We evaluated the effects of immersion in solutions of gibberellic acid (GA3) (0, 2000 and 5000 mg L-1) during two exposure times (24 and 48 hours), associated with the removal or maintenance of the opercular tegument, as well as the effects of the associations between GA3 (2000 mg L-1), indole-3-butyric acid (IBA) and benzylaminopurine (BAP) and the effects of repeated applications (one, two or five) of combinations of these phytoregulators. The seeds were sown in vermiculite and incubated in a humid growth chamber at 95 ± 5% relative humidity and 30°C for 18 weeks in all experiments. GA3 application and removal of the opercular tegument had positive effects on germination, but no significant differences were observed in immersion times for this phytoregulator. The application of IBA and BAP did not influence germination. The application of GA3 on five separate occasions gave the best results, with 41% germination at the end of the experiment.

O objetivo neste trabalho foi avaliar a influência de tecidos adjacentes ao embrião na absorção de água pela semente e de tratamentos de superação de dormência em macaúba. Para avaliar a absorção de água, sementes com ou sem a remoção do tegumento opercular (TO) foram imersas em água durante 0, 12, 24, 48, 72, 96, 120, 168, 240, 360, 480 e 720 horas e determinado o teor de água de embriões isolados e sementes. Em sementes submetidas ou não à remoção do TO, aplicou-se ácido giberélico (GA3) (0, 50, 100, 500, 1000 e 2000 mg.L-1) sobre a região do TO, tendo meio de cultura como veículo de aplicação. Em outro experimento, sementes com ou sem TO foram imersas em soluções de cianamida (0; 0,5; 1; 1,5; 2 e 2,5%). Foi avaliado o percentual de germinação, índice de velocidade de germinação (IVG) e porcentagem de sementes mortas. O TO não impede a absorção de água pelo embrião, mas diminui a velocidade de embebição. O uso de GA3 sobre a região do TO não favorece a germinação e a cianamida hidrogenada nas doses utilizadas aumenta a mortalidade das sementes, proporcionando baixa germinação. A remoção do TO possibilita acréscimo no IVG.

The aims of this study were to evaluate the influence of embryo adjacent tissues in water uptake and treatments to release dormancy in macaw palm seeds. To assess water absorption with or without the opercular tegument (OT), seeds were immersed in water for 0, 12, 24, 48, 72, 96, 120, 168, 240, 360, 480 and 720 hours and the water content of isolated embryos and seeds was determined. In seeds with or without OT, gibberellic acid (GA3) solutions at concentrations of 0, 50, 100, 500, 1000 and 2000 mg.L-1 were applied on the OT region using a culture medium. In another experiment, the OT was removed or left intact and the seeds immersed in hydrogen cyanamide solutions (0, 0.5, 1, 1.5, 2 and 2.5%). The percentage germination, germination speed index (GSI) and percentage dead seeds were determined. The OT does not prevent embryo water uptake but reduces water absorption speed. The use of GA3 in a culture medium applied to the OT region did not effectively release dormancy. The use of cyanamide at these concentrations increased seed mortality, resulting in a low germination. OT removal increased the GSI.

Passiflora alata, P. cincinnata e P. setacea são frutíferas de grande importância, no Brasil, representando grande potencial agronômico. Entretanto, apresentam dificuldades de propagação, relacionadas à dormência e armazenamento das sementes. Desta forma, o presente estudo objetivou avaliar os efeitos do período e métodos de armazenamento sobre a emergência de plântulas de Passiflora alata Curtis, P. cincinnata Mast e P. setacea D.C. Para cada espécie, as sementes foram armazenadas à sombra, em refrigerador (10°C) e sob condições de laboratório e estratificação a 10°C. Aos 0, 7, 60 e 120 dias após o armazenamento, para P. alata e P. cincinnata, e 0, 7, 90 e 120 dias, para P. setacea, 50 sementes, para cada tratamento, foram semeadas em substrato comercial, com 4 repetições. Os experimentos foram estabelecidos em D.I.C., em esquema fatorial 4x3 (período x método). Avaliou-se a emergência de plântulas, a cada três dias, até 90 dias após a semeadura. Para P. alata, a estratificação proporcionou aumento nos percentuais de emergência (11%), após 60 dias de armazenamento das sementes, e redução aos 120 dias, não havendo influência positiva dos demais tratamentos. Não houve influência do método de armazenamento em P. cincinnata, observando-se aumento na emergência de plântulas até 60 dias de armazenamento (18,5%) e redução após este período. Em P. setacea, a estratificação resultou em aumento linear na emergência das plântulas, em função do tempo de armazenamento. A conservação de sementes de P. alata e P. setacea tem maior eficiência sob estratificação a frio. Sementes de P. cincinnata, independentemente do método utilizado, não devem ser armazenadas por mais de 60 dias.

Passiflora alata, P. cincinnata, and P. setacea are very important species, in Brazil, with high agronomic potential. However, they present propagation difficulties, related to seed dormancy and storage. Thus, this study aimed to evaluate the effects of storage period and methods on the Passiflora alata Curtis, P. cincinnata Mast, and P. setacea D.C. seedlings emergence. For each species, seeds were stored at shadow, in a refrigerator (10ºC) and under laboratory conditions and stratification at 10ºC. At 0, 7, 60, and 120 days after storage, for P. alata and P. cincinnata, and 0, 7, 90, and 120 days, for P. setacea, 50 seeds were sown in a commercial substrate, with 4 replications. The experiments were randomly designed in a 4x3 factorial scheme (period x method). The seedlings emergence was evaluated every three days, up to 90 days after sowing. For P. alata, the stratification provided an increase on emergence percentages (11%), 60 days after seeds storage, and decrease at 120 days, with no positive influence of the other treatments. There was no influence of the storage method for P. cincinnata, but it was noticed an increase in seedlings emergence up to 60 days after storage (18,5%) and a decrease from that period on. For P. setacea, the stratification resulted in a linear increase in seedlings emergence, according to the storage period. The conservation of P. alata and P. setacea seed is more efficient under cold stratification. P. cincinnata seeds, regardless of method, should not be stored for more than 60 days.
